Hyundai has revealed a high-reach demolition spec excavator at Conexpo 2014 this week, based on its 52tonne R520LC-9A. The R520LC-9A DM, as it is to be known, gets a tilting cab and a high-reach configuration that offers a working height of up to 26.1m.

Weir Minerals’ new Enduron SP series cone crushers are said to deliver a very high production capacity per ore ratio, which is achieved by combining the power of a higher eccentric speed (375rpm) with the potential of a bulkier crushing chamber. The company said that the new Enduron family of comminution products positions it as a more complete partner with mine operators around the world and adds to its reputation in the industry for more than 75 years, serving mining and aggregate operations worldwide.

A key launch for Komatsu comes in the shape of its new Dash 11 series excavators, with the PC240LC-11 and PC490LC-11 both making their debut at Conexpo 2014. The PC240 weighs from 24.7-25tonnes depending on specification, with power from a 132kW diesel, while the PC490 weighs from 47.9-50tonnes depending on specification and is driven by a 268kW diesel.

Komatsu has upgraded its HM300 articulated dump truck (ADT) with the addition of a Tier 4 Final compliant diesel. The SAA6D125E-7 engine delivers 242kW, while also offering fuel savings over the model it replaces. The truck offers a 28tonne payload and weighs in at 53.5tonnes fully laden.

Caterpillar has updated its hybrid crawler excavator, with the launch of the 336F H, incorporating Tier 4 Final power. The company claims that fuel savings of up to 30% are possible against the standard 336F excavator, despite the C9.3 engine achieving lower fuel consumption than the previous model. Komatsu’s upgraded D155AX-8 crawler dozer meets Tier 4 Final requirements and is powered by an SAA6D140E-7 engine rated at 264kW. Not only does the engine produce lower emissions, it is also said to be more productive, dependable and efficient, with lower fuel consumption and better response.

GOMACO says that a series of improvements to its Commander III slipform paver will help increase the machine’s versatility and overall performance. The paver will be on the market in the third quarter of this year and the three-track machine’s key improvements include a new G+ control system and a new low emission, Tier 4 compliant engine.

Roadtec is showcasing the latest version of its SB2500e Shuttle Buggy material transfer vehicle (MTV) at Conexpo fitted with a new Tier 4i Cummins engine, rather than a Cat unit.

Caterpillar’s new 390F hydraulic excavator uses a C18 Cat ACERT engine to meet the tough new Tier 4/Stage IV emissions regulations. The 92tonne 390F burns 7% less fuel at the same time as delivering more productivity than its 390D predecessor. Fuel-saving features include standard or economy power modes, to allow the operator to match operating speed to application.

JCB has extended its telescopic handler range, with the addition of a heavy-duty machine that has been designed for tough operating conditions. The 560-80 has a two-stage boom capable of lifting 6,000kg (12,000lb in the US market) with a maximum working height of 8.1m (26’2”), with a 1,750kg (3,750lb for the US) load capacity at full forward reach.

Tesmec has updated its 885 chainsaw trencher with the addition of the group’s TrenchTronic 3.0 control system. The 885 has been designed for digging utility trenches by the side of the road, says the manufacturer. “This is a smarter machine,” said Tesmec market analyst Stefano ‘Stephen’ Leghissa. “Our new control system allows even inexperienced operators to operate the machine (and) this helps the machine reach optimal performance.”

Topcon’s new X-63i 3D indicate system for excavators is the latest addition to its machine control portfolio. “The new system combines Topcon’s advanced GNSS global positioning technology and machine sensors with the heavy-duty GX-60 touchscreen colour display to provide an easy-to-use system for increased excavation efficiency,” said Kris Maas, Topcon’s machine control product marketing manager.

Kobelco is introducing its G-series cranes, which are said to be more versatile, easier to transport, assemble and also operate. Advanced features include a nested boom for easier transport, and footprints smaller than other cranes in the same size class for better manoeuvrability. The cab and design of the crane add to the operator’s comfort and safety.

Wacker Neuson’s big draw at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2014 is the unveiling of its new skid steer loader series, designed specifically for the needs of the North American market. Four models, the SW 24 and SW 28 on wheels and ST 35 and ST 45 on tracks, will be available at the German company’s North American and Canadian dealer network from mid-2014 onwards.

A novel variant of Hamm’s H i-series of soil compactors is now being offered for concrete road recycling applications. The H 25i VC model is a single-drum roller featuring a special drum that can be used to break up old concrete surfaces, with the broken material then being suitable for recycling in mobile crushing and screening equipment located nearby.
