Sakai America unveils new machines

Sakai America unveiled three new machines at Conexpo: two compactors with Tier 4 Interim engines and a new trench roller. The 2m-wide SV540 vibratory drum roller has an ‘Eco’ mode, which marketing manager Josh Steele said could reduce fuel consumption by up to 20%. The new model also has a spacious cab, with new features including heating, air conditioning and an FM radio.

Michelin has launched two additional tyres for backhoe loaders and telescopic handlers. The Power CL, which will go on sale in July this year, is a premium bias ply tyre that can handle the same load capacity as a radial, but at a lower cost. VSS Macropaver is introducing an improved version of its successful slurry surfacing equipment, as well as upgraded variants of the mobile Minimac and skid-mounted emulsion plants. Vice president Doug Hogue said that the upgrades to the slurry surfacing machine will increase its performance as well as its ability to handle tough road repair jobs. Phoenix’s new pellets save money and use less asphalt

Phoenix Industries, which specialises in products made from recycled rubber tyres, unveiled a new type of rubber pellet at Conexpo called PelletPAVE Plus, designed to allow less virgin asphalt to be used when preparing a mix. “This new product decreases the amount of asphalt you need in your mix by up to 0.5%,” said Serji Amirkhanian, director of research and development for Phoenix Industries. Amirkhanian has been researching the use of recycled rubber in asphalt mixes for more than 25 years.

Tweaks to Yanmar’s mini excavator range has seen the firm introduce a new 2.5tonne ViO model and offer an angle blade option on its larger 3.5tonne ViO35-6, to increase its versatility. BLS has a new rubber trackpad for excavators

US-based wear part specialist BLS Enterprises is broadening its product line with a new trackpad system. The firm’s president, Barry Stoughton, explained that the new product is designed for use with excavators, allowing them to be driven on an asphalt or concrete road without damaging the surface. “It’s rubber bonded to steel,” said Stoughton. “We use a triple grouser steel pad.”

A new, patented Aggregates Cooling System (ACS) was one of the main taking points on the stand of asphalt and concrete plant manufacturer Lintec at Conexpo. Lintec has just sold its first ever plant to concrete manufacturer Emirates Beton in Dubai.
