John Deere’s K Series wheeled loaders have adopted Tier 4 Final emissions standards through the use of John Deere PowerTech engines. The company has also improved machine durability through the addition of standard axle cooling and filtration, the use of brake retractors and automatic adjusters to prevent wear and cut fuel consumption through brake drag. The K Series utility wheeled loaders also feature a standard five-speed lock-up torque converter transmission that is said to cut fuel use by 5-8%.

ContiTech has announced the development of conveyor belts able to work with hotter and larger materials. The company’s tailor-made, heat-resistant conveyor belts now feature a new “heat control” insulating layer, ContiTech said on Monday at Conexpo 2014. That insulating layer reduces the transmission of heat from the surface of the conveyor belt to the strength members of the carcass by as much as 40ºC.

Metso has unveiled its innovative two-in-one Lokotrack LT220D, the latest addition to its mobile crushing and screening equipment range. Claiming it to be the most compact track-mounted combination of a cone crusher and a screen ever made, the company says the combination into a single track-mounted plant will reduce operational costs in several ways, most notably by substantially lowering fuel consumption and reducing the need for maintenance. MOBA has developed a new temperature scanner system called the PAVE-IR, designed to help operators avoid laying incorrectly heated asphalt. From mixing plant to compaction, getting the temperature of asphalt right is critical. Cold asphalt can lead to road damage, which results in additional costs of up to 46% due shorter surface lifetimes. The new MOBA PAVE-IR aims for an optimum asphalt material mix and the best possible process flow says the manufacturer.

Bergkamp has launched the M1E self-propelled continuous slurry seal and micro surfacing paver. The machine has two main advantages over older versions, said the manufacturer: it is easier to operate and has electronic mix control and diagnostics. “It is much simpler to operate than the old-style machine,” said Bergkamp general manager Bill Cooper. “The operator can pick it up much quicker which means that if you lose an operator you can get a new one up to speed faster.”

Case Construction Equipment has used Conexpo 2014 to unveil its new Tier 4 Interim DV209 and DV210 high frequency asphalt compactors, both designed to improve fuel efficiency by up to 10% compared with previous models. The two new compactors add to the CNH brand’s range of high frequency double-drum models, and are said to give road builders more control and versatility to match the thickness and required density of each layer.
