Case CE is unveiling an innovative compact solution for dozing needs at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2017. Based on the chassis of a compact tracked loader, the DL 450 is the fruit of the firm’s ‘Project Minotaur’.

The world’s first 3D-printed excavator was unveiled in the new Tech Experience zone of CONEXPO-CON/AGG. Project AME (Additive Manufactured Excavator), led by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and involving multiple partners from industry, trade associations and academia, was instigated back in 2014 when visiting members of the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP) saw ORNL’s 3D-printed car.

Komatsu America says the new HB365LC-3 hybrid excavator, being introduced at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2017, can reduce fuel consumption by up to 20%. The cutting-edge 36tonne class model, from one of the world’s leading heavy equipment manufacturers, features improved hybrid and total-vehicle-control systems, generating that impressive double-digit reduction in fuel consumption, while maintaining or exceeding operating performance, compared to same weight class, non-hybrid excavators.

From its Gold Lot stand, Caterpillar is remotely operating a D8T dozer situated 1,700 miles away in Peoria, Illinois. The CAT Command remote control system offers a choice of two operator interfaces - a portable operator console designed for line-of-sight use and an ergonomically-designed operator station that can be located remotely.

Leica Geosystems is now offering a sophisticated tool that allows engineers to measure deformation accurately. The Leica GeoMoS Now! Survey Edition is a service for monitoring and managing 3D deformation of points of potentially unstable areas for surveying projects. It has a streamlined workflow and can deliver monitoring reports of man-made structures or natural dangers to smart devices. Surveyors can use this to upload coordinates, process and visualise deformations, allowing other users to access result

Swedish attachment specialist Steelwrist has launched a branch in the US in a bid to supply the North American market with its rotating excavator attachments. The move came after Steelwrist noted an increase in enquiries and interest from the US. “In the last two years we started to get a lot of requests for quotations and we saw that a lot of people surfing our website were from the US,” says CEO Stefan Stockhaus.

Epson, the world’s largest projector manufacturer, has teamed up with drone manufacturer DJI to create smart glasses aimed at reducing the likelihood of accidents. The technology will help drone pilots in the US to meet the new Federal Aviation Administration rules which require a visible line of site.

Atlas Copco has introduced three PAS diesel-powered pumps, with outlets of 122mm or 200mm. The high capacity diaphragm machines have a pumping head of up to 55m and can handle flows of up to 13,800 litres/min. The company is also replacing its WEDA electric pump range over the next 12 months, with the WEDA+ range.
