The contract to build a new highway bypass and interchange in Stockholm has been awarded by the Swedish transport authority, Trafikverket. Swiss firm Implenia has won the contract to construct the first section of Stockholm’s new bypass in a deal worth €216.7 million. The Förbifart Stockholm road project was awarded by the Swedish Transport Administration, Trafikverket. Implenia won the package of works following its acquisition of Bilfinger Construction and will commence work during October 2015. The section Implenia will work on is called the FSE 403 stretch and the work includes building a 7.2km long, twin tube tunnel as well as slip roads.

Swedish firm Züblin Scandinavia, a subsidiary of STRABAG, will head the joint venture partnership building the Marieholmstunnel project in Swedish city Gothenburg. This project will be for an immersed tunnel, which will pass under the River Göta älv. The design & build agreement also comprises the mechanical and electrical works and has a total contract value of around €170 million. The Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has unveiled a US$81.02 billion (SEK 522bn) plan for national transport systems in 2014-15. Around $43.66 billion (SEK 281 billion) of the budget been earmarked for transport system development, $24.05 billion (SEK 155bn) will be spent on road maintenance, and $13.34 billion (SEK 86bn) have been earmarked for railway maintenance. Ylva Berg, coordinator at the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), said that while the rise in speeding has been just under 1 per cent it must still be tackled as a further rise would increase the number of traffic fatalities.

The Productivity Committee in Sweden has presented a commission report to the country’s government criticising how it invests in roads and railways. The independent body’s report also highlights three areas where changes are needed to revitalise the construction sector: better forward planning; more turnkey contracts; and an industrial approach to civil engineering construction.

Preparation work is expected to commence in 2012 on the new bypass around Swedish capital Stockholm. This project has now been delayed by one year although the work will go ahead, following a series of appeals over various contract issues. The major works for the Förbifart Stockholm project will commence in 2013 and the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) and its consultants are now trying to catch up with the schedule to ensure that the work can be completed on, or at least close to, the origin

Trafikverket has informed Q-Free that the company will be awarded the contract for delivery of the congestion charging infrastructure in the Swedish city of Gothenburg.
