Major upgrade planned for key Mexico highway

A major upgrade of Mexico’s Atizapan-Atlacomulco road link is being planned. The work is expected to commence in 2016 and will cost in the region of US$182.63 million. The project will be carried out by OHL Mexico, the Mexican subsidiary of Spanish form OHL. Once the upgrade is complete, the route will be able to carry heavier traffic volumes than at present and the extra capacity will cut delays on the route, as well as increasing safety.

    OHL Mexico, a subsidiary of Spanish construction firm OHL, has confirmed it will bid for the construction and operation contract for Mexico’s La Raza-Indios Verdes-Santa Clara motorway.     The Mexican Secretariat of Communications and Transport has announced that US$7.8 billion, from both public and private sectors, is being invested in road projects as a consequence of the new Mexico City International Airport.     A new highway project in Mexico City is to commence in a bid to further tackle massive congestion problems. Mexico City suffers from amongst the worst traffic congestion in the world and peak time travel is notorious for delays and jams. A new high speed road is to be constructed as part of a long term plan to link major roads and reduce congestion.
