A US$2.5 billion financial boost to Cameroon’s overall budget has been provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB). The funding from AfDB is being used to pay for a total of 26 projects, with a strong focus on road development works. Around $1.4 billion of the budget is being targeted towards transport infrastructure development. This is intended to develop Cameroon’s road network, as well as its international links with its neighbours.
Key projects carried out with the benefit of AfDB backing so far include the road lining Bamenda in Cameroon with Enugu in South East Nigeria as well as the Cross River Bridge linking Mfum in Nigeria with Ekok in Cameroon and completed in 2022. The AfDB’s transport investments also include the road connection between Djoum in Cameroon and Ketta in Republic of the Congo.
