Chile’s bridge budget announced

Chile’s Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has revealed an ambitious plan for bridge projects. The MOP has set a budget of US$1.48 billion to be used for a range of bridge projects for the 2018-2023 time period. In all 229 bridges are included in the programme of works, with structures due for maintenance and upgrade work.

The current administration plans to spend US$2 billion on upgrading the country’s transport links, including roads and highways, airports and urban/underground rail. New plans are being set for the tenders for eight highways with their current concessions due to come to an end within the coming three years. The concessions involved in these tenders will be for some 1,500km of roads in all.
