Slovenia-Austria tunnel project contractor selection

Construction work is underway on the 8km Karavanke Tunnel connecting Austria and Slovenia. The work is being carried out at present from the Austrian end of the tunnel link. However the selection process for the contractor to handle the Slovenian end of the tunnel is now underway. Six firms have shown interest in the project and are in talks with the Slovenian state motorway operator, DARS.

    Construction of the second tube of the Karawanks Tunnel connecting Austria and Slovenia is now going ahead. The work will be headed by Austrian contractors, ARGE Swietelsky Tunnelbau and Swietelsky Baugesellschaft. The 7.8km-long tunnel route runs under the Alpine Karawanks mountain range.     A legal challenge has now been launched against the tender award for the second tube for the Karawanks/Karavanke Tunnel project between Austria and Slovenia. The challenge has been launched by the two bidders that were unsuccessful for the project, Kolektor CPG and Euro-Asfalt.
