The country recently rebuilt the highway connecting capital Cairo with Alexandria, its major port on the Mediterranean in a bid to cut congestion and crashes. Further large infrastructure projects are underway such as the new road tunnel providing a new link to Ismailia and that runs under the Suez Canal, which is itself being widened.
