Czech road project now underway

Construction work is underway on stretch of the D11 highway connecting Hradec Kralove and Smirice in the northern Czech Republic. The work is being carried out by a construction consortium comprising contractors Eurovia, Metrostav and Swietelsky. However, the start of the work for the 15.5km highway section was delayed and its completion is timed for 2022. Construction work is underway on stretch of the D11 highway connecting Hradec Kralove and Smirice in the northern Czech Republic. The work is being carried out by a construction consortium comprising contractors Eurovia, Metrostav and Swietelsky. However, the start of the work for the 15.5km highway section was delayed and its completion is timed for 2022. The project is costing €100.5 million and includes a number of engineering challenges due to the complexity of the terrain. In all the work will include building 18 bridges and two raised intersections. In addition, a number of noise protection barriers will also be installed to reduce disturbance to residential areas.

Both towns are in northern Czech Republic, near the Polish border. The work is worth around €218.3 million, according to Czech media, and is one of the last remaining sections of the D11 to be built. Construction of another section between the town of Trutnov and the border with Poland is likely to start in 2019 and the Jaromer-Trutnov section after 2020.
