Funding has been secured for a key expressway project in Bangladesh.

SMEC is now commencing its operations on a US$2.25 million (A$2.2 million) detailed design and construction supervision contract in Tanzania. The project is for rural roads in the Morogoro, Iringa and Ruvuma Regions of Tanzania and was awarded by the Ministry of Finance. The company has been awarded the contract administration services contract for the Horse Park Drive extension in Canberra by the Australian Capital Territory Government. It has also won the intersection upgrade project in New South Wales. The project in Canberra involves construction of the final section of Horse Park Drive from Burrumarra Avenue to Mirrabei Drive in the Gungahlin area. A legal hiatus has delayed the construction of a highway in Tanzania linking Tunduru, Matemanga-Kilimasenra, Namtumbo, and Songea. Work has been suspended by the Tanzanian authorities following a dispute over whether the Progressive Constructions-Higleig Joint Venture (Progressive-Higleig) building the link has met performance targets. Meanwhile, the Tanzanian Ministry of Works is implementing four road upgrading projects in Tabora worth a combined value of around US$ 221.47 million (TZS 351.70bn).

SMEC is now working on construction supervision and contract administration for the Karnataka State Highway Improvement Project (stage Two) in India. The project is located in Karnataka State and the contract was awarded to SMEC earlier by the local authorities.

An environmental impact assessment and feasibility studies will be carried out on the first phase of the proposed Northern Expressway in Sri Lanka. The earmarked key highway route will link Colombo with Jaffna in the north of the country. Phase one of the project will cost an estimated US$ 1billion.

Plans are now in hand to upgrade and straighten the Bruce Highway over the Cardwell Ridge in Australia. The US$102.45 million (A$115 million) project will be handled jointly by a team comprising consulting engineer, SMEC Australia and Abigroup Contractors.

Australian engineering consultant SMEC is handling key construction supervision contracts in Tanzania. The firm will supervise upgrading work on the Nzega-Tabora road, which is being rebuilt with an asphalt surface.
