The CFG, said to be the first in the hire industry, offers a next day delivery on the 30 most hired plant and access machines or the customer receives a credit of €119 (£100). Launched in February 2013, 20,363 deliveries had been made up until mid-November 2013, 20,115 being delivered on time, giving an on time success rate of 98.78%.

The success of the scheme coupled with increasing construction activity across the UK is said to have seen increasing demand for excavators, dumpers, booms, platforms, and in particular, telehandlers. Hewden has placed an order with 178 Caterpillar dealer 1413 Finning for more than 450 new telehandlers, in a deal worth more than €29.79 million. The telehandler deal is the largest order Caterpillar dealership Finning has ever received for this product. The order covers telehandler sizes from 7-17m. In addition to this order Hewden is committing a further €11.91 million of Core Fleet investment in excavators and dumpers, with a further €8.34 million being spent on powered access.

Currently Britain’s second largest crane operator, Hweden is also investing €10.72 million to increase and refresh its crane fleet. The investment continues as a further €13.58 million is to be spent on a range of initiatives that include a fleet of 20 Scania tractor units and 13 new trailers, giving greater fleet efficiency and improved logistics to support the company’s 31 depot network and the CFG.

Money has also been set aside for two new major Hewden hub depots - one in Bedford and one to the west of London, further improving customer coverage and machine availability.

Jeff Schofield, Hewden’s marketing director, said, “We were optimistic from the start that this compelling proposition would drive customer loyalty and win business.

“We have been especially delighted that this demand has come from regional and local contractors across the country. This offer has made it easier for customers to get quality Hewden kit on their site and take some of the hassle out of the hire process. We know how important this is for contractors delivering on budget, on time projects.”
