A big deal for Lyndon Thomas: eight new Doosan DA30-5 ADTs
695 Doosan’s DA30-5 Stage IV/Tier 4 Final compliant articulated dump trucks are proving popular in the UK and Norway.

Contractor Lyndon Thomas, based in Northampton in the UK, recently took delivery of eight new Doosan DA30-5 ADTs, the biggest single order for Doosan trucks in the UK.

Meanwhile, over the past three years, one of Norway's largest contractors – Risa - has purchased nine new Doosan DA30-5 ADTs. The units were bought from Rosendal Maskin, the Doosan and 1130 Bobcat dealer for Norway based in the city of Askim.

Lyndon Thomas offers services including earthmoving, contract crushing and screening, plant hire, demolition and distribution of all types of aggregate. The new order for eight Doosan ADTs confirms Lyndon Thomas as owner of the largest fleet of dump trucks in the East Midlands area of England.

The company also picked up a new Doosan 30tonne DX300LC-5 Stage IV crawler excavator from Murley Construction, the Doosan dealer for the neighbouring West Midlands.

Like all Doosan ADTs, the DA30- 5 features an articulation hinge positioned behind the turning ring to provide equal weight distribution to the front axle even during maximum steer articulation.

This, together with a free-swinging rear tandem bogie, ensures equal distribution of weight to each wheel and guarantees permanent six-wheel contact and drive for equal power distribution and excellent performance on difficult terrain.

Collectively, the forward turning point, the unique tandem bogie and the sloping rear frame results in ‘best in class’ rough and soft terrain capabilities and avoids the need for electronic aids such as traction control.

Risa, with over 450 employees, works on infrastructure, housing, industrial and road maintenance projects mainly in the west coast region of Norway. Risa purchased the company’s first DA30-5 ADT in 2014 and following successful tests of its performance against the equipment the company was using at the time, this was followed one year later by the acquisition of two more DA30-5s which were delivered during spring 2015.

Last June, Risa picked up two more DA30-5 machines and has since placed an order for seven more, bringing the DA30-5 fleet to 12. Risa also has a fleet of five Bobcat mini-excavators purchased from Rosendal Maskin.

Efficient fuel consumption of Doosan ADTs is down to a combination of features including a new 759 Scania diesel engine and a 2304 ZF EP transmission; it all improves the transfer of power from the engine to the wheels.

The Scania DC9 276kW diesel engine, meeting the Stage IV/Tier 4 Final emissions regulations through the use of both Selective Catalytic Reduction and Exhaust Gas Recirculation technologies, has an electronic engine brake system, one of four brake systems on the trucks.

Doosan’s Stage IV/Tier 4 Final ADTs do not need a diesel particle filter to meet the emissions regulations. When the advanced Scania engine is coupled with the enhanced rear differential system, engine rpm is reduced, further increasing machine durability.

Its incredible versatility means that the articulated dumptruck (ADT) has become a popular piece of equipment for quarrying or earthmoving applications. For quarrying in particular, the machines are highly useful as they are able to cope with steeper ramp hauls and tougher terrain than rigid haulers offering similar payloads.
