Oman is spending a huge $7 billion on developing its road network. The country has set its 2026 budget for road works, which will see work for 2,525km of main roads. Maintenance and upgrade work will be amongst the road improvements being carried out.
Several key road links will be completed during 2026. The Sultan Faisal bin Turki Road connecting Khasab with Dibba and Lima and the Sultan Said bin Taimur Road linking Adam and Thumrait will be ready for traffic in 2026. In addition, the Sultan Turki bin Said Road connecting Al Kamil Wal Wafi with Sur and the road between Al Ansab and Al Jifnain will also be finished in 2026. Other roads to be finished will be the road between Raysut and Al Mughsail, the road from Harweeb to Mitan and the dual carriageway between Farq to the Heritage District.
Meanwhile, construction work for the Muscat Expressway Road widening and upgrade project is due to commence during 2026. Construction is also starting in 2026 for the 18th of November and Al Mouj upgrade projects in Muscat itself, with the work being carried out by Strabag Oman. The project aims to reduce congestion and delays for Muscat’s main transport corridor, boost connections to Muscat International Airport, Sultan Qaboos Highway and Muscat Expressway and improve traffic safety.
In addition, work is progressing well for the 42km Al Abila-Al Fayyad road project. The work is costing close to $50 million and is coming close to 50% completion. Work should be completed on the road, located in Al Buraimi, in the second half of 2027. The road will deliver an improved link between Al Fayyad and Al Abila.
