Malaysian roads break ground

Construction work is now underway in Sarawak State,Malaysia for key road projects. Work has commenced for the new Jalan Teku Pasai Siong-Kemuyang highway as well as improvements for the Jalan Teku-Jalan Teku Pasai Siong-Jalan Kemuyang link.

Journey times for drivers will be reduced to just seven minutes compared to 36 minutes at present, once the new Jalan Teku Pasai Siong-Kemuyang highway comes into use. The work will start in mid-2025 and should take two years to complete.

With the Jalan Teku-Jalan Teku Pasai and Jalan Sibu-Bintulu routes being upgraded to dual carriageways, journey times will be reduced and capacity increased. Malaysia is benefiting from a series of major road projects that will expand its highway network and boost transport.

Meanwhile, in Penang State plans are being drawn up for the Pan-Island Link 1 (PIL1) project. This new link will feature six interchanges and connect Gurney with Southeast Penang State. Once the new link is opened it will reduce congestion on the existing Jalan Masjid Negeri and Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu routes.
