A new Secondary National Roads Development Project (SNRDP) is being impended in the Philippines to boost rural transport networks and connectivity. Costing some US$214 million the project will be financed by a grant from US-based foreign aid agency 2707 Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). The programme of works will include improvements to roads in the Wright-Taft-Borongan-Guiuan area of Samar Island. The total grant from MCC that will be used for development in Samar Island is worth $434 million in all, with the rest of the sum being used to boost the local economy through developing trade, industry and tourism.

    A pre-bid conference was held yesterday for the Secondary National Roads Development Project (SNRDP) in Samar, the Philippines. Monday’s event was a tender call for the first of four contracts of the road construction and rehabilitation project. Actual bids for the first contract, which involves a 550-day project to rehabilitate the Barangay Tinani-Buray Junction road that is scheduled to start on 5 September, 2012, must be submitted by 16 July, 2012.
