Construction for the $1.56 billion expressway upgrade between Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), Trung Luong and My Thuan is now delayed. The approval process for the widening work has fallen behind schedule. The necessary agreements with the respective authorities along the route have yet to be reached.

At present, the expressway has just two lanes in either direction but the work will see the route being widened so that it has four lanes in either direction, with traffic speeds of up to 120km/h. This will boost capacity and safety while reducing congestion according to the Vietnam Road Administration.

The Ministry of Construction has yet to analyse the feasibility study into the project. This was originally supposed to have been approved in June 2025. The project will be handled under the PPP model.

Meanwhile, progress is being seen for the project to build a new bridge spanning the Saigon River in Binh Duong Province. The first span has been completed for this $23 million project. The 1km Binh Goi Bridge will form part of the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project, construction package 4. Featuring two lanes in either direction, the bridge will allow traffic speeds of up to 100km/h and link An Son Commune in Thuan An City, with Binh Duong and Binh My Commune and Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City.
