Construction work is on track with the new cable-stayed bridge close to Morocco’s coastal city of Rabat. The cable-stayed bridge will form part of Rabat’s new bypass and will be the largest such structure in Africa when it is complete, later this year. The bypass crosses the Bouregreg valley and measures some 41km. The bridge itself will measure 950m and span 376m, with three lanes in each direction. Cost increases have hit the construction of a new highway in Bangladesh. The highway will connect capital Dhaka with Mymensingh. The 87km highway was originally expected to cost US$128 million. However, it now looks set to cost close to $237 million. The project has been beset by delays. The lead contractors for the project are Metallurgical Construction Company of China (MCCC) and Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC).

A US$4 billion bypass contract has been signed in Hong Kong. The deal for the Central-Wan Chai Bypass project has been agreed by the Hong Kong Highways Department with the joint venture Chun Wo-CRGL-MBEC.
