An amended loan agreement will help with the construction of a major highway project in Serbia. The funding for the project is being provided by Azerbaijan. The loan facility for the work on the Corridor 11 highway project has now been extended for an additional two years. The total loan for the project is €308 million. The project is now due for completion in May 2018. The work is being carried out by Azerbaijan-based contractor Azvirt.

The Serbian government has said it could issue penalties to the Azerbaijani construction company Azvirt for delays to work on the Ljig-Preljina Corridor 11 motorway project. Completion was set for the middle of next month. But last month the government said delays of around a month were due to problems construction the tunnel and bridge sections. The new route is expected to open around 40 days later than originally expected as a result.

Serbian vice president Zorana Mihajlovic has held talks with Li Manchang, China's Ambassador to Serbia in Serbia, for continuation of works on Belgrade’s ring road. According to the political magazine B92, Mihajlovic also signed a memorandum of understanding with Azvirt, the company from Azerbaijan, and China's Sinohidro. Serbian road contractor Putevi Srbije will build around 2.4km of access roads around the town of Ljig in central Serbia, according the state Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure. The access roads will be for the Corridor 11 motorway, which is under construction from the Serbian capital Belgrade running southwest into Montenegro, ending at the Adriatic coastal tourist town of Bar. Chinese company Shandong High Speed Group is planning to begin construction works on Serbia’s Corridor 11 motorway in the second half of September 2013. Shandong will participate with 51% of works on the Lajkovac-Ljig and Obrenovac-Ub parts of the motorway, with domestic companies participating in the remainder of the works, due for completion within 38 months. Meanwhile, the Azerbaijan-based firm Azvirt is working on the 40km part of the Ljig-Preljina motorway, worth a total of €308 million.

Miodrag Jocic, State Secretary from the Serbian Ministry of Construction, , said the Chinese company Shandong High Speed Group (SHSG) will begin construction of Serbia’s new Corridor 11 motorway in March 2013. A series of major highway construction and road repair projects is planned for Serbia. The World Bank (WB), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have all been in talks with the Serbian Government concerning funding for the work. Funding worth €408.46 million has been approved by the three banks for programme of highway construction and road repairs.
