Progress appears to be slow on the El Sillar road project in Bolivia. Work commenced around six months ago but has met with additional challenges due to geological issues. The work is being carried out by the Chinese contractor Sinohydro and a six month extension may be required to allow construction to be completed. The route had to be extended from 28km to 30km, so as to avoid areas with poor geological conditions. A tunnel section also has had to be driven for one section of the route, instead of the flyover that had been planned originally, again due to unexpected challenges posed by the local geology.
