Construction work is underway for the new ting road in Chilean capital Santiago. The AVO II highway runs in a tunnel and is providing a 5.2km section of road that will help reduce the chronic traffic congestion that afflicts Santiago regularly.
At present the link is around 36% complete and it is expected to be ready for traffic in late 2028. Construction of the AVO II section of the project commenced in mid-2022, with the design being carried out by WSP.
Once the ring road project is complete, it will help reduce the chronic congestion that occurs regularly at peak periods in Santiago. The new ring road will also help reduce air pollution in the city, which sits amidst mountains. Poor air quality can be a major problem for Santiago and reducing the peak period traffic stoppages will allow better traffic flow and reduce the overall transport emissions.
