Upgrading and resurfacing work is now underway for the road linking Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire. This is part of the project to improve transport between the two countries and their respective capitals, Monrovia and Abidjan. The work also includes construction of the new bridge spanning the Cavally River.
The project forms part of the Transport Facilitation and Development Programme of the Mano River Union (MRU). Much of the funding for this project has been supplied via the African Development Bank (AfDB). The project forms part of a wider programme of highway upgrades and improvements aimed at boosting trade and transport across West Africa. These include works to highways in Nigeria, Benin, Togo Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
