STRABAG is carrying out testing of Liebherr’s innovative hydrogen-fuelled wheeled loader. The machine is being tested under a trial basis at the Kanzelstein quarry in Gratkorn, Austria. STRABAG plans to test the new machine intensively over a two-year period, running it at least 50 hours/week.
The test is part of a programme by STRABAG to reduce its carbon profile. Fuels represent STRABAG’s largest source of CO₂ emissions – around 40% of the total STRABAG Group emissions are attributable to construction machinery, commercial vehicles and cars.
For the practical test, a dedicated hydrogen filling station has been set up at the quarry to allow straightforward refuelling of the wheel loader. As a strong regional partner, Energie Steiermark contributes vital local expertise and will ensure the hydrogen supply for the station on site.
