Construction work is underway for a stretch of the highway linking Gabon’s capital Libreville with Brazzaville, the capital of Republic of the Congo. The work is for the 49km stretch between Ndendé and Doussala.

The work is a key component of the Project for Support to the Infrastructure Sector in Gabon (PASIG). This is being carried out in two main phases, with much of the necessary financing being provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Central African Development Bank (BDEAC). Also planned as part of the PASIG is the surfacing of 20km of roads in Libreville.

Chinese contractor Syno-Hydro is working on part of the the PASIG, including building a 2km bridge spanning the Ngongo River. Local contractor Unik BTP is carrying out work, including maintenance, on a number of other road sections for the PASIG.

Improving the road connection between Libreville and Brazzaville will help deliver a major boost to the economies of both Gabon and Republic of the Congo, facilitating trade and transport. Similar work will see improved transport connections with neighbouring Cameroon to the north of Gabon.
