The Federal Ministry of Transport has issued a series of approvals for construction work to upgrade existing Federal highways and Autobahn routes across Germany. Approvals have also been issued by the ministry for the construction of new Federal highways and Autobahn sections.
Germany is now addressing the country’s long backlog of Autobahn upgrades and Federal highway improvements. Many of the country’s bridges are known to be in poor condition and extensive improvement works are required.
The projects include work for a 13km stretch of the A20 coastal highway in Lower Saxony between Westerstede (A28) and Jaderberg (A29). This will be the first of seven sections of the total 114km coastal highway between Westerstede and Drochtersen in Lower Saxony. The project will cost around €340 million. The Autobahn GmbH des Bundes is now commencing planning for the work.
In addition funding has been made available for two road construction projects in Saxony-Anhalt. These are for a stretch of the A14 between Osterburg and Seehausen (Altmark) and for B188 Miesterhorst bypass.
The Transport Ministry has given the go-ahead for widening work for the A57 in Krefeld. There were delays to the work. So far €55 million has been spent on the project. The route will now be widened so that it features three lanes in either direction as planned originally.
