Work is being planned in the Czech Republic for the Zábreh bypass, although the construction start for the project is now being delayed to 2028. The project is being managed by the Directorate of Roads and Motorways (SD) and is costing around €145 million and involves building a new alignment for the I/44 route. The Zábreh bypass will stretch 6km once complete and the permissions process for the work is now underway.
Work for the 10.4km stretch of the D4 highway between Litomyšl and Janov is well underway, with completion expected in November 2027. The work is being carried out jointly by STRABAG and Firesta-Fišer. Meanwhile work on the stretch between Džbánov and Litomyšl is being carried out by Budimex and is expected to be ready for traffic in late 2026.
In addition, there have been concerns over the structural condition of the bridge carrying a class III road over the D4 highway near Jílovišt. The bridge has now been closed by the Regional Road Administration and Maintenance of the Central Bohemian Region (KSÚS). As the bridge is 55 years-old, it has been decided to demolish the structure and replace it with a new link that will be more suitable for current traffic needs.
An upgrading project is also underway for the D1 and D2 highway interchange in Brno. New bridges will replace the existing structures and will help boost capacity. The interchange carries amongst the heaviest traffic loads of any in the Czech Republic and the improvement project will increase capacity as well as traffic safety for anticipated future demand.
