Work on the third phase of Chennai’s ring road project has now been inaugurated. The $3.2 billion project is for a 30km stretch of this access-controlled, tolled route, featuring three lanes in either direction as well as service roads on either side. This third stretch will run between the Tiruvallur Bypass and Sriperumbudur, including five bridges.
The Chennai Peripheral Ring Road project (CPRR) measures 133km in total and will benefit from sophisticated ITS technology. The CPRR will provide a new and faster transport link between Ennore Port and Mahabalipuram and is being constructed by the Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC).
The route is intended to improve transport connections within Tamil Nadu and is due for completion in late 2025. It will also speed transport between Chennai and Bengaluru, Tada and Tiruchi. With Chennai and Bengaluru becoming increasingly important industrial and commercial hubs in India, the new road will help economic growth for South India.
