Morocco is planning a new highway in the North of the country that will link Tangier with Tetouan. The 60km highway is expected to cost around $650 million to build. The new link is required as the population and vehicle numbers in the area have increased. The existing N2 link is proving insufficient in terms of capacity. Tangier is a major port and also a centre for industry in Morocco.
Construction is expected to commence in 2027. Both technical and environmental studies will be carried out in 2026. The project will be managed by Morocco’s national road company. Financing for the project has yet to be finalised. The project is one of several in Morocco intended to boost transport.
