The Indonesian Government is working on a programme to build 5,000 bridges in various parts of the nation. These new suspension bridges will help improve transport to and from areas in Indonesia that have previously been difficult to access. Local authorities and the Indonesian Army are working together on the bridge building programme, which should be complete by the end of 2026.
Meanwhile, a $117.6 million road contract has been awarded to the state-owned construction firm Waskita Karya (WSKT). The package of works is for an 8km stretch of the Yogyakarta-Bawen Toll Road in Central Java’s Magelang Regency. The work includes building access roads, interchanges, pedestrian bridges and underpasses, as well as the main road itself. Once the new Yogyakarta to Semarang toll road is complete it will cut journey times to just 25% of the four hours the current route takes to drive.
Indonesia has been benefiting from a major programme of toll road construction managed by the country’s government. The work is linking key conurbations and is expected to help improve transport safety as well as cut journey times and provide an economic boost for the nation as a whole. The majority of the major projects are being managed by Indonesia’s Ministry of Public Works.
