Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved 13 road contracts worth a total of $443.3 million. These are for both new road stretches as well as road maintenance and repair work and will be carried out across several states.
One of the biggest contracts will be for maintenance and improvements to the highway linking Kaduna and Zaria in the north of the country, which is expected to cost $129 million. Also being carried out in the north of the country will be maintenance and improvement works to the A237 and A3 route linking Kano with Maiduguri, which is expected to cost around $84 million. This last route is important for Nigeria’s international trade as Maiduguri lies close to the borders with Cameroon and Chad.
Other roads to benefit will link Aakalari and Ukuk Road in Bauchi State, the 57km Bagudu road in Kebbi State, the Uturu to Akara Road in Abia State and the road from Oba to Okigwe linking Imo State and Anambra State.
